We're often asked how we became so personally involved with a group of kids in distant Namibia, a dry, dusty and often unknown African country. Good question.
The story begins during a 1997 safari when we met Heidi Dednam, a remarkable Namibian naturalist with an enduring attachment to the ecology and Topnaar People of the Namib Desert. Nineteen years (and many trips to Namibia) later, we deeply share Heidi’s commitment to educate, encourage and empower the children of this unique community.
These young people are growing up with one foot in their ancient desert culture and the other in contemporary Africa. Our Gava Kids organization was created to help provide the education that is their greatest hope for bridging these two worlds.
As we prepare for the 2015-2016 school year, we invite you to join us in helping build a brighter future for these wonderful young people.
